Monday: Second Reading of the Armed Forces Commissioner Bill

In the next step of this government’s commitment to improving service life, the government has introduced the first ever independent champion for serving personnel and their families, which is welcomed by serving personnel.

The Commissioner will be a direct point of contact for serving personnel and their families to raise issues which impact service life, from equipment to housing and unacceptable behaviours.

The Armed Forces Commissioner will champion serving personnel and their families who make great sacrifices to help keep Britain secure at home and strong abroad.

Tuesday: Passenger Railway Services (Public Ownership) Bill

This Bill, which will bring our railways into public ownership, comes one step closer to becoming law next week. The government is working fast to implement this central manifesto commitment – calling time on the 30-year ideological privatisation experiment which failed passengers, failed to modernise our railways, and failed our economy.

I look forward to supporting this Bill as part of the government’s commitment to get our country moving.

Wednesday: Financial Assistance to Ukraine Bill

The UK stands resolutely in support of Ukraine, as we have done since Putin launched his unprovoked and illegal invasion over two and a half years ago.

This Bill contains important provisions to allow the government to provide Ukraine with financial assistance following the agreement at the recent G7 summit to collectively provide a loan of $50bn, of which the UK will contribute $3bn.

I welcome the reaffirmation of the government’s commitment to continued UK leadership on this issue. Russia’s illegal invasion of Ukraine poses a serious threat to UK prosperity and security, and it is vital that Ukraine has the resources to defend herself.
