Dear Wes,

RE: Enhertu drug for terminal breast cancer patients

I have recently spoken to women living with terminal breast cancer who are concerned that Enhertu is not available on the NHS.

As you know, Enhertu has been shown to keep women with advanced breast cancer alive for longer; years in some cases. More time to spend with family and friends is all these women want, and this drug can deliver just that.

I am aware that NICE have not approved Enhertu for funding on the NHS, stating that it too expensive and does not represent good value for taxpayers. However, this is available in 19 countries in Europe, including Scotland.

I appreciate that these decisions are incredibly difficult and NICE must ensure that NHS funding is spent effectively. However, this standoff between NICE and the manufacturer of the drug has left terminal breast cancer patients caught in the middle.

Therefore, I urge you to work with NICE and the manufacturers so that an agreement can be reached which allows Enhertu to be accessed on the NHS. This will give women in the most heartbreaking of circumstances precious extra time with loved ones.

Yours sincerely,

Gill Furniss MP

Member of Parliament for Sheffield Brightside and Hillsborough
