Gill Furniss MP
Here’s a look at what’s coming up in Parliament next week ๐
๐ Second Reading of the Terrorism (Protection of Premises) Bill – Martyn’s Law
This bill, also called Martyn’s Law after Martyn Hett who tragically lost his life in the 2017 Manchester Arena attack, will ensure venues are better prepared to respond to a terrorist attack.
It will require those responsible for certain premises and events to take steps to mitigate the impact of a terrorist attack and reduce harm in the event of one occurring.
Those responsible for certain larger premises and events must also take additional steps to reduce vulnerability to terrorist attacks.
โ Second Reading of the House of Lords (Hereditary Peers) Bill
Reform of the House of Lords is long overdue. The right of Hereditary Peers to sit and vote in the House of Lords is indefensible – so this bill puts a stop to it.
This is part of Labour’s plans to modernise our democracy and instil public confidence in Parliament.
๐ General debate on the International Investment Summit
The Prime Minister is set to bring together up to 300 industry leaders as the UK hosts the International Investment Summit.
Economic growth is the Government’s top priority, and investment is one of the key pillars of the Chancellorโs growth strategy. The summit will make clear that the UK is โopen for businessโ as the government resets relations with trading partners around the globe and creates a pro-business environment that supports innovation and high-quality jobs at home.
