December 2023 Community Update

Mission Christmas Cash for Kids

Thousands of children are living in poverty. So many are at risk of waking up without presents to open because Christmas is a luxury their families can’t afford. It’ll be just like any other day. But Mission Christmas is here to make a difference.

If you are able to, please consider donating gifts or cash to Mission Christmas Cash for Kids.
Details of how to donate can be found here: hallamfm.co.uk/mission

World Aids Day

The 1st December marks World Aids Day. Today HIV positive people can live freely and love freely. But there is still work to do.

I was pleased to attend an event in Parliament to mark this important occasion and reiterate my commitment to tackling stigma and the ignorance that fuels it.

Speaking up for Sheffield steel

In a recent debate in Parliament, I spoke up in support of our proud steel industry in Sheffield.

Steel has been such a vital cornerstone of our city for so many years, but repeated failures by the Tories mean that more and more families are worried about the future of this key industry and the livelihoods that depend on it.

I challenged Ministers to provide steel with the support it needs to decarbonise in a fair way which protects jobs.

Women’s Health roundtable

As co-Chair of the All-Party Parliamentary Group on Women’s Health, I was pleased to host a roundtable event in Parliament to discuss the transformative potential of informed choice and decision making in menstrual wellbeing.

We brought together influential leaders, decision makers, healthcare professionals, and patients to delve into this issue. This is part of our wider
series dedicated to championing informed choice for women to ensure they have the agency ad knowledge to shape their own lives.

I thank everyone who attended this important event to share their experiences.

LABOUR’S SHADOW PENSIONS MINISTER
Setting out Labour’s priorities

I was delighted to speak at a recent event hosted by Later Life Ambitions to outline my priorities as
Labour’s Shadow Pensions Minister.

It was a great opportunity to talk about Labour’s plans for a strategy for ageing well that values older people and ensures their voices are heard.

None of this will be easy, but a future Labour government will place the needs of older people at the heart of our agenda.

LABOUR POLICY:
HOLDING WATER BOSSES TO ACCOUNT

We are all shocked by failures by water companies to prevent raw sewage polluting our rivers, lakes and sea. But many Chief Executives of these companies continue to rake in bonuses.

This is not right and Labour will put a stop to this. We will ban water bosses’ bonuses and put them under special measures until they have cleaned up their filth.

If you agree, you can sign Labour’s petition here:
