Gill Furniss MP Labour Member of Parliament for Sheffield Brightside and Hillsborough
It was great to meet with lots of local groups and organisations last week, recess is a great opportunity to do this and to listen to local people about the things that matter most to them. This week I have:
Helped out at The Upper Don Trail Trust’s Workday
I was pleased to join The Upper Don Trail Trust’s workday, clearing the path and entrance to the trail just off of Herries Road (by the Five Arches Viaduct). It was good to hear about all the work being done by volunteers from a number of nearby groups to help bring this valuable natural corridor to life. You can find more details from the Trust here: upperdontrail.org.uk

Ice Hockey Players of Tomorrow
It was great to meet with Sheffield Ice Hockey Academy and their chair, Martin, he told me all about how they had got back on the ice after COVID restrictions were lifted. There was lots of talent and promise from the children and young people there. I also saw some of the Sheffield Bears just before they were taken off to be auctioned for charity.

Fir Vale School
I joined the Headteacher at Fir Vale School and went on a tour of the school and out into the local area. It was great to see the improvements that have been made and that are a testament to the hard work of the staff and pupils.
Cash for Kids
It was lovely to join Cash for Kids at their (delayed) celebration of kids sports clubs that have raised money for their clubs. Cash 4 Kids has doubled up the money they raised and helped them access resources and equipment that they would otherwise have been unable to.
