I’m pleased to announce that I’ve been appointed Labour’s Shadow Minister for Steel, Postal Affairs and Consumer Protection. Coming from a family that relied on the steel industry, it’s an honour to be taking on this role.
Steel is vital, in Sheffield and in communities across the country, but jobs and pensions are under threat. This government may wish they could forget the duty they owe to British steel workers, but I hope this appointment shows that the Labour Party will never let them off the hook.
I’m looking forward to working with Clive Lewis and the rest of the Shadow Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy team in shaping Labour’s alternative to the Tories’ lacklustre record.
